Comparrisons to The Clash, Sublime, and OpIv can be made, but the album is completley original. The lyrics are in the same vein as OpIv, promoting love and unity for everyone, while remaining as poetic and socially relevant as they were in '89. There's even an unlisted track at the end, which reminds me of 60's country/acoustic rock (but it's supprisingly good!). The plugin offers faders for both low-level and high-level compression with automatic make-up gain. Once the vocal rider we just mentioned does its job, the MV2 can step in and bring the vocals right up front. The best songs are the incredibly catchy punk tunes "Heatseekers" and "True Rulers", the reggae gems "Rough Redemption" and "Walk to the River", and "Deep Spring" a quick little mellow ditty that is so different from anything else on the album, it seems to fit right in. The Waves MV2 isn't specifically a vocal plugin, but it's especially useful when mixing vocals. The first track, "Classics of Love", sets the tone for the entire album, with its reggae groove, punk rock raps, and rockin chourus. There are also plenty of saxophone solos, backing organs and even some backing vocals by a couple of the Teen Idols. Mass Gorgioni(from Sqirtgun) plays bass and Dan Lumley(Screeching Weasel and Riverdales) does the drumming. LWR takes elements of reggae, 70's street punk, 60's rock and roll, and lightning quick lyrics,to make one of the best smorgasborgs of music I've heard in a while. This is the looooooong awaited new material from Operation Ivy frontman and punk icon Jesse Michaels, and let me just say that it was well worth the wait. I have not even side chained it yet either just been using on tracks.Damn! I love this album. It is a plug you will use a lot once you get it I can almost guarantee it. So much so you will feel like you don't even need a compressor on the track.

On a pro track that has been well recorded it works even better. But once set right it will ignore the spill and just ride the actual vocals. If the sensitivity is too high it will bring up any spill in between vocals.

the target level, the min and max ranges and also the sensitivity. Be prepared to fiddle with the settings though and you will need to tweak it a bit. IDLE ARROW sets the Rider Fader value when there is no vocal activity.

I like to cut the vocal track into smaller sections and vary some of the gains of individual phrases and level them up as per Craig's article on the Presonus blog. a young singer that is good but does not have a lot of control over very consistent levels. Firstly I think some prep is required on a vocal track that varies a lot in level. Vocal Rider is great for preventing the ends of words and phrases from getting lost in general. I find this works as a starting point followed by a compressor doing light duties and then vocal rider for a final tweak. Something Sonar does not do unfortunately. I tend to edit vocals a bit first by cutting them up into smaller clips and tweaking them individually. It almost does such a good job that it sounds like no compressors are needed. Or send the vocals to a vocal buss and vocal rider that overall. If there is more than one vocal you can insert a vocal rider on each. Then you can send that to the side chain inputs of the vocal rider/s. They want you to create a buss that has all the instruments on it only. In side chain mode it factors in what the music is doing. The output level will be striving for the target volume set. Yes you can certainly use it to just level a vocal track.
